Atticus on the Trailer and the Door Closing, 4-13-13

This is the last three minutes of this session which was all of 11 minutes long. He loaded four times total, staying on 2 1/2 to 3 minutes each. We practiced a little standing with my turning away, but only at the very beginning.

This session was about closing the back door. So for each mini-session, I closed or partially closed the back door five or six times each. There was some targeting of the boat bumper at the front of his hay bag many times. Note that he now has his head out the side door waiting for me.

On the second time on when I started to put up the butt bar, he took one step back. We both waited and then he took a step forward and I put the butt bar up.

In all sessions, I cued the back up and get got off. The first session, I had to cue it twice because he was too busy searching the hay bag. This last time, as you’ll see, he was just a bit quick.

About Laurie Higgins

I play with clicker training - with my horses, dogs, and cats. I also attempt to grow vegetables with the hope of one day being able to feed my family from my garden. My daughter and I are learning ballroom dancing. Well, we were. But she left me for a paying horse job, so now my husband and I are learning ballroom dancing. I'm also now helping Peggy Hogan, of Clicker Training Horses (and The Best Whisper is a Click) to teach people how to train their own horses using "clicker training".
