Sophie in the Shower, 3-31-13

I did two shower sessions with Sophie today. In the first one, I had to backtrack a bit and toss a couple of treats and lure just a bit. Then I could wait a little and go for shaping. Again, once she got all the way in, I’d jackpot slowly and then throw one outside for another try.

She started to get the idea of coming all the way in, but there was at least a delay to the count of three waiting for the hind end to come in. I tried treating less on the longer delays, but that didn’t seem to help. In fact, the wait got as long as a count of ten before the hind end joined us. Then I noticed a yawn and realized she was getting stressed, so we finished that session.

In the second session, she started right away coming all the way in. Then there started to be a slight delay. I went for a total of ten trials, but decided by the end that that was too many. Maybe only five next time. 🙂

About Laurie Higgins

I play with clicker training - with my horses, dogs, and cats. I also attempt to grow vegetables with the hope of one day being able to feed my family from my garden. My daughter and I are learning ballroom dancing. Well, we were. But she left me for a paying horse job, so now my husband and I are learning ballroom dancing. I'm also now helping Peggy Hogan, of Clicker Training Horses (and The Best Whisper is a Click) to teach people how to train their own horses using "clicker training".
